Besta Goes Mod
Materials: Besta bench unit in walnut, Ikea Rull knob, 4-8" round tapered table legs & 4 steel angled top plates (ordered from Home Depot), Minwax wood stain in Dark Walnut, vinyl wall decals in Matte White
Description:
- I started with a Besta unit in walnut color and took off the plastic feet that came with it.
- Order the legs in whatever length you require, they start at 4" and go up from there. The steel top plates come in angled or straight options, depending on the look you desire. For this project I chose 8" legs at an angle. These are both found at Home Depot's website and are very reasonably priced, about $20 total.
- Stain the wood legs, taping off the silver end caps and add a coat of satin poly if desired. This look only took one coat of stain, so simple! The color match is EXACT if you use Minwax Dark Walnut stain.
- Turn the furniture upside down and screw in the leg brackets. I played around with the placement a little, just depends on what appeals to your eye.
- Add any vinyl wall decals you like. (This step is optional obviously, but it makes a big impact.) I chose Whispy Sea Grass from Dali Decals for my look. I even carried the decals from the cabinet front up onto the top of the piece to help it seem more organic.
- Lastly, I added a simple knob to the cabinet door to enhance the mid century effect.
I'm very pleased with the outcome of this project and so glad I didn't have to buy a new piece of furniture just to raise the height of my TV. I also included photos of a matching piece I'm using as an end table next to my sofa. It started out as an Engan two-drawer chest and I added 4" legs to it.
