Rover/Poang Chair
Materials: Leather Rover car seat and Ikea Poang chair frame
Description: I was inspired by Ron Arads 1981 Rover chair, which utilised a leather Rover car seat with galvanised steel scaffolding poles for the legs and arm rests.
My Ikea Hack follows the same theme utilising a black leather Rover car seat and an Ikea Poang chair frame for the legs and arm rests.
I have taken the original Poang legs and arm rests and rotated them through 90 degrees as shown. The original Poang components are simply strengthened at the joint and complemented with a plywood horizontal board used to bolt the Rover car seat onto.
As shown, I have made two matching Rover/Poang Chairs and they are going to be used as drinking chairs in my snug!

Poang tuning
Materials: Poang chair & footstool
Description: We all love Poang chairs. Unfortunately, their design can make you have a position so low that elderly people may have some difficulties to sit up and down. We need the seat to be horizontal and the back less angled.
Just mount the lower structure of the Poang and screw (from down) to it the structure of the footstool. Then use the front screw to join the upper structure of the chair but not the one in the back. Instead of this union, screw the upper structure to the footstool.
You can add another screw for the arms not to bend and the footstool board to add extra stiffness to the seat.

Doggy Futon
Materials: 1 Lack side table + 1 Poang footstool cushion + glue
Description: Our little flat is almost 100% Ikea furnished (you know, budget issues!). Recently we adopted a dog and we liked the idea of extending the Ikea-style also to his doghouse. Unfortunately, there is no pet furniture in the Ikea catalog, so we created this easy-but-handy Ikea Hack!
Material:
- 1 LACK side table
- 1 POANG footstool cushion
- vinyl glue
Procedure:
1) Flip the table's top upside down, so that you can work on the lower face.
2) Spread some glue (we used vinyl glue) on the legs' sides
3) Place the legs sideways in the centre of the top creating a square (see picture)
4) Turn the table and place the cushion on it: your doggy-futon is ready to be enjoyed!

Postered Poang
Materials: Poang armchair, posters
Description: My Toronto School of Art collage class was collecting posters from telephone poles, when I spotted an old Poang armchair in the alleyway. The wood was split and the back support and cushions were gone, but I grabbed the chair and cleaned it up.
So I ripped up the posters and glued them to the chair, with acrylic gel medium. I made back slats out of cardboard, and stapled on a particularly large poster to form the new back.
The chair is now on exhibit at the school. It will be returned to the alleyway (unless someone out there wants to own this objet d'art, which is not suitable for seating).

Pimp my Poang
Materials: Poang, fabric, walnut finish
Description:
I had an IKEA Poang chair that I hated. Normally the Poang doesn't bother me, but this one originally had a red glossy wood finish with a dark green seat. yuck! I wish I had taken photos of it before changing it because it was absolutely hideous and I can't find this combination in google images. I sanded the entire thing, gave it a walnut finish and changed the entire mid section so that the fabric supports your weight. The cost of redoing the chair was surprisingly low since I used wood from the chair. I just bought the thick fabric and screws that hold it on, which only cost about 15 dollars. The orange scented wax I used cost more than that!
