Ikea NOT floorlamp makeover

Materials: Not floor lamp, wax paper, jewelry jump rings, mesh wastebasket, mesh pencil cup

Description: What I Used:

- Ikea Not lamp
- Dollar Store Wire Mesh waste basket
- Dollar store wire mesh pencil cup
- Fishing line (Monofilament)
- Large jump rings (jewelry findings)
- Wax Paper
- Iron
- Cutting Machine (can also be done with punches or circle cutter.)
- Wire snips

How To Make It:

1.) First, paint the wire mesh baskets white. I neglected to do this at the beginning and had to go back and try and paint AROUND the circles. Not fun times. Remove the bulbs from your lamp. This should allow you to remove the plastic "shades".

2.) Using the hole in the original shade as a guide, cut out enough of the bottom of the mesh pieces to fit in the original shade's place. Set Aside.

3.) Layer 2-4 sheets of wax paper on some newspaper. Use your iron on a very low setting, iron the paper. The wax between the paper will melt and create a layered, rather thick shell-looking material.

4.) Using the tool of your choice, cut 2-3in circles out of the material. I opted to let my Silhouette Cameo do the hard work here- cutting around 400 circles.

5.) Using the monofilament, string as many of the circles together on a string as you need to go top to bottom of your upper shade. For me this was 6 circles a strand. I pierced the circles with a needle strung with the monofilament., I tied a knot after each circle so that they wouldn'€™t slide down the filament.

6.) One string at a time, fill up the tiers of your lamp. For me, I did 4 tiers, with each about 30 strands.

7.) Now that the top is done, let'€™s move onto the accent lamp. Since this one sits sideways most of the time, it wouldn'€™t work to do the filament trick. I was worried those strings would tangle with the movement this spotlight gets. So instead, I punched a hole in each circle and hooked it with a large jewelry "€œjump" ring.

8.) Using a similar tier methods, but with each tier only 1 circle, attach circles all over the accent lamp.

Very old NOT uplight/reading lamp gets new feet

Materials: old NOT, old cymbal stand

Description: I had this very old NOT floor lamp (it came in silver in those days) that was so old that its base had totally disintegrated. The light however, was still perfect.

Since I had an old drum kit that needed getting rid of, I just stuck the shaft of the light into the foot of the cymbal stand. Clamp tight and job done.

Not a mic stand...

Ikea NOT Lamp mic stand

Materials: Not lamp, piece of wood, cement, mic screw

Description: Take a broken Not, pull away lamp, diffuser, just keep the stick and the cone. Combine them stiffer with some Quick Metal moldable wax. Fill the cone with cement (to make it heavier) and dig a piece of wood into the cement. Screw a larger piece of wood to the former one to widen the base. At the other end of the stick join a mic screw for the mic holder.

Dress and cage stand from floor lamp

Materials: Old IKEA NOT floor lamp TYP G9711, cage, dress body

Description: First I dismantled the lamp. Then I polished the surface.

The stand comes in three pieces, I took one piece out, otherwise it would be too tall.

I painted it with white ground coat, after that I used white color spray.

I simply pulled the dress body over it.

I made a cage stand from an other old lamp of the same type.

Without polishing or painting I just screwed the cage on, and put some candles in the cage.

I really love them in my living room!

Chachut

Materials: Not, Mammut

Description: I had the NOT lamp and the MAMMUT shelf for a long time by my bed as a reading light and book shelf, one day I accidentally knocked the lamp down and broke its standing pole.

Instead of throwing it away I decided to attach the lamp to the shelf to maintain the same function as before.

The process was quite straight forward, the shelf opens into two parts so all the cables can be hidden inside, I drilled holes for the lamp poles and cables and that was it.
