Lack space combiner

Photo: IKEA.com
Materials: Lack room divider

Description: Having bought a second hand LACK room divider, it didn't really seem to fit in my room. The thick black beams were somewhat overexposed in comparison to my other furniture. But I did need a piece of furniture to store my administration, stereo and other stuff I could fit in there.

First thing I did was lay down the room divider so it would be less of an eye catcher. Unfortunately my stereo and record player were too wide to fit in the shelves. I lowered the middle shelf, so that I would get just enough extra space to place my stereo units. As the room divider was now horizontal rather than vertical, it had more or less the shape of a piano soundboard.

By cutting three slices into the LACK board and placing a plywood plate underneath my electric piano I more or less created a piano-stereo furniture. Next step was to close the open sides. I did this by screwing a number of wooden slats. On the other side I mounted some plywood board to store the piles of paperwork.

Cutting the rather thin wood of the LACK room divider wasn't that much of a success. Having finished all of this, it would have been smarter to build a wooden frame from ground up.

But, I wouldn't have come up with the idea to integrate a stereo-piano-administration desk into a room divider, or as from now on, room combiner.

Stolmen into mid-century unit/space-divider/desk

Materials: Stolmen poles + wood

Description: After carefully deciding the sizes of the shelves and of the "working station", (sketchup plan appeared pretty useful to avoid mistakes) I cut/sand/tint in teak color/varnished each part from one 5' x 5' cherry wood board bought at a local shop. I made them a kind of back to avoid the books from falling off since it was going to be used as a room divider.

Boring white Stolmen poles were turned to black with spray paint.

I added two black desk leg from Ikea also to provide more stability.

The whole unit was finally assembled according to Ikea Stolmen instructions.
Tadam ! Multi-purpose unit whit a vintage twist.

LACK bamboo room divider

Materials: LACK TV bench, DIODER LED multi-use lighting, bamboo canes, white stones

Description: We needed a great idea to create 2 spaces within our living + kitchen room.

"??Just place the sofa in the middle of the room."
"Ok, but it so weird to look at the back of your couch while eating in the kitchen, isn'??t it?"
"Ok, EXPEDIT shelving unit suits us."
Or not ...
With its 39 cm depth, and 149 cm height, maybe it is too cumbersome.

Ok, let'??s put together our wishes: we need to divide without closing, we need something cool to look at while eating, we do love a natural touch within a minimal context. Let'??s add a super cool light effect on it. And that's it.

White LACK TV bench: vertically place it on the longest side (without the feet on, obviously). The "??not white side" will be set against the sofa. You won'??t see it. Take a plywood sheet (very cheap) and tailor cut it. It will be your base.

Fill the wonderful "??flower box" you've just created with polystyrene blocks (to be honest, the only ingredient difficult to collect). Mill the polystyrene and wedge your bamboo canes into. Yes, bamboo canes!!

Different sizes, randomly placed, not all perfectly perpendicular.
Remember, this is not a jungle prison!!

Two final little steps still missing: DIODER led lighting fixed on the polystyrene + white stones to cover the polystyrene.

Your wonderful bamboo room divider is done.

Freelancer console

Materials: Billy bookshelf

Description: First you may need to saw the upper part of the furniture to get the length needed (once turned into a console), we sawed about 1/4 of it.

Position the shelves where you want them, then use 2x2 screws per shelves so they can stay vertically.

You can reuse the top of Billy to gain an extra shelf, we added it horizontally in the middle bookcase and maintained it with 2x2 screws.

One layer of melamine special undercoat, then two layers of blue/gray paint.

Add 4 small castors and fill the new console with your stuff !
