Andy hacks 'em

Andy hacks quite a bit. As his friend puts it "...as soon as you buy Ikea, you start working for Ikea...". And Andy has done some nice work to share with us.

The Vink is a CD holder but when you put two together it's a dish drainer.


He deconstructed the Radium rail spotlight system to fit on the bathroom mirror, with the lights screwed to a clip gripped on the mirror.

Hackeas: With love from Turkey

Handem from Turkey sent me a collection hackeas, which are simply delightful. "I am aware that these are not world-moving hacks. But wanted to share anyway!" he says.

Blanda blank salad bowls as decorative items.

Ikea train in Kobe

If there is one thing Ikea is fantastic at, besides making flat pack furniture, it's advertising. For their opening in Kobe, Japan, Ikea decked out trains with Ikea furniture. Rush hour has never looked better.

Glam up your Malm

Here's one for the baby room. Easy way to add a little style to the Malm dresser. [via AT's OhDeeDoh]

Julia glammed up the white Malm dresser with grasscloth wallpaper, glued to the drawer fronts. The edges are given a grosgrain ribbon trim to create a frame. For the final touch, add in pulls from Anthropologie.

Looking for a low bathroom bench? Here's one to hack.

I like how Gianni modified the Malm console for his bathroom. I can't find the link to it but it does look like the Malm occasional table, only longer. 

"I was wondering how to sort out the bathroom, especially where the basin is," says Gianni. "Actually, I knew I wanted a bench, but I could not find any cheap ones, neither could I custom build one (far too expensive). The bench had to be large/narrow enough to fit nicely beyond the bathtub, so when I saw the Malm console and after I checked its width, I knew I was done.

 

 

So, I bought the Malm console for bedroom and I simply shortened the legs to make it a bench. Before the cut, I made sure I could fit the Kassett boxes underneath, cause they would give me extra storage space for stuff and shoes."

Hang up your coat with a Grundtal

Another hat and coat solution, repurposed from kitchen items, from Joshua.

He says, "Here in Toronto, we�ve been searching for a coat rack that could also double as a shelf for gloves, scarves, and hats. All of which are necessary for living in a frozen wasteland. The problem was that all the coat racks that also had shelves were either too expensive or too large for our tiny apartment. They just couldn�t fit.

Our solution was to hang a Grundtal Rail and use the Grundtal S-Hooks for coats and hats. This just fit in the space behind our door. For hats and gloves, we hung a Grundtal Dish Drainer from the rail and put a Komplement Storage Box on it to hold the loose stuff.
