Tiny Easter diorama

Materials: Grundtal (magnetic spice container)

Description: I added nice papers and printed words to the containers; also artificial grass, ribbon and a cute chicken. So the magnetic containers became unique Easter presents.

Materials: 2 Blanda bowls,Cable curtain DIGNITET

Description: I took 2 bowls Blanda, drilled to insert the speaker from the inside, lined with sound-deadening, perforated behind to pull out the cables. Fixed to the ceiling with a steel cable, a cable curtain DIGNITET IKEA. Then glued, sealed and painted.

Upholstered Lack Hack

Materials: Lack Coffee Table

Description: Using the base of the Lack coffee table to make a large upholstered ottoman/coffee table.

I took apart the Lack coffee table and chopped the legs from the bottom. I left the metal braces already on the legs so I could reattach a new shelf. I reused the hardware to attach the legs to the new upholstered plywood top. Because I made the top larger than the original lack I had to build a new bottom shelf. It is attached by chiseling out notches on the bottom of the shelf and resting on the metal shelf prongs made for the Lack Coffee table.

I thought about not hacking the Lack coffee table and doing this all from scratch but after pricing out the costs of 4 legs, leg hardware, and hardware to attach a seamless lower shelf, the $19.00 Lack Coffee Table and its materials was much cheaper.

The specific details of how to build and tuft the top and build a bottom shelf out of scrap wood, are on my blog.

Can this be done? Expedit Clock

Materials: Expedit, LED Bars, know-how

Description: This isn't really a hack yet, this is inspiration and a challenge to one of your hackers. I saw this while checking out the Cheeseburger Network and I immediately thought that something similar could be done. This version is small and only a CD holder, but you could do this if you knew how with an Expedit bookcase and really make it work.

Easy Expedit Entertainment

Materials: Ikea Expedit 2x4, glue, drill

Description: We wanted an entertainment center that hold our vinyl records so we bought the Expedit. The only problem was that we wanted to put our stereo system and DVD player in it instead of on top next to the TV. The squares were too narrow to fit our system. So we left out one of the middle dividers for the squares. This made 5 squares around one rectangle in the middle of the unit. Then we used the extra divider/shelf for support by placing it centered in the middle rectangle a few inches from the edge. This also made a nice spot to hide wires by passing them around and taping them to the back and supported the TV.

Here is the instructions with pictures:

1) Assemble normally but skip the top middle divider and top, you will need to cut the pegs in half that you use to secure the bottom center divider since there will not be a divider on top of it. But leave the inner most hole on the back side open, you will re use it later.

2) Measure and drill holes in the top so you can place the last divider sideways, I reused the holes on the divider as well as added a center hole.

3) Use the unused pegs to place you new support back

Billy hanging on the wall

Materials: Billy 40x106 cm, Billy 80x106 cm, Metalbar

Description: I hung up two small Billy bookcases (40x106 cm and 80x106 cm) onto the wall. First I cut of the bottom part. Then I fixed a metal bar to the back of the side parts. I used 4 screws for each side. The metal bar is fixed such that part of it is sticking out. This part is used to fix the bookcase onto the wall with 2 screws on each side. The bookcases are hanging up side down, so you can't see the part where I cut of the bottom.

Now there is room beneath for a desk.
